Fall Garden Chores

Fall garden chores are some of the most rewarding.  Fall is the time to seriously look at where and how you are going to store your garden tools away for the winter.  If you plan to store those rakes, hoes and diggers in the shed, now is the time to sweep the floor of all debris, and brush away the accumulated dust of the past season.  Now that the shed is clean, look at your garden implements.  Inspect the edges of the diggers and cutters, and if necessary, sharpen and clean.  Check handles for splits and damage and make any repairs.  A fresh coat of paint on some of the utensils makes them more inviting to use next spring.  If you plan to store your garden tools in the basement, take steps to counter the dampness – sure to rust out any metal quickly.  Whichever way you store your garden tools, remember to take good care of them, and they will last you for many years.
